Float Therapy was first introduced by John C. Lily in 1954. He was a neuroscientist studying consciousness and the effects of the brain without stimuli. Dr. Lily constructed the first floatation tank, a dark soundproof tank filled with warm salt water. Lily and his team were the first to conduct research on brain activity and the effects of floating in a sensory deprivation float tank.
At the time, sensory deprivation was associated with a less then pleasant experience, and was eventually rebranded as R.E.S.T., Restrictive Environmental Stimulation Therapy. |
In recent years float therapy has gain popularity with raving endorsements by professional athletes and influential celebrities, and academics alike. Not surprising that athletes benefit greatly from float therapy. Steph Curry, of the Golden State Warriors, and Tom Brady of the New England Patriots, famously praised the benefits of floating, while going on to win a National NBA Championship the same year. Coincidence? Maybe not. The combination of the Epsom salt and darkness is ideal for mental preparation and improving physical recovery time.

NSF CERTIFIED | FLOAT LAB TECHNOLOGIESFloat therapy occurs in a floatation tank also known as a sensory deprivation chamber or isolation tank. We operate a Float Lab floatation tank. Our tank is tall enough you can stand inside and wide enough to comfortably spread out. The dimensions of our float tank measure 4 ft wide, 8 ft long & 7 ft tall, containing almost 250 gallons of water, and 1,000 lbs of dissolved Epsom salt.
The tank is designed with an air filter that constantly circulates fresh purified air inside of the tank during your float. |
EPSOM SALT | sulfate magnesiumYes, you heard right, our floatation tank has over 1,000 lbs. of dissolved therapy grade Epsom salt, creating a silky like solution. The large quantity of salt makes you so buoyant, that you will float effortlessly. Epsom salt is made of a mineral compound called Sulfate Magnesium, a mineral most people are deficient in. Soaking in sulfate magnesium/Epsom salt is incredibly relaxing for the body and can help accelerate the healing process, by reducing inflammation and soothing sprains and bruises.
